Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The present research builds on the existing body of literature by examining the phonological interlanguage of third year students at the Department of English, Frères Mentouri Constantine1 University. It seeks to investigate the students‟ phonological interlanguage as far as the production of the schwa sound is concerned. In this research, It is hypothesized that third year students might have a fossilized mispronunciation of the schwa sound. To investigate the validity of the hypothesis, the research methodology relies on the phonetic analysis of thirty audio recordings of the participants. The results obtained provide valid evidence that the students maintained significant French phonological features in their production of the schwa sound.
