Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This research study investigates the ambiguity of kinship terminology in the translation of texts encountered by Master two students of English at the University of Frères Mentouri, Constantine. It also attempts to identify the reasons behind committing mistakes in the use kinship terms. For this purpose, it is hypothesized that Master two students of English face difficulties in the translation of kinship terms because of lack of readiness (shortage in vocabulary) and misuse of the right equivalents in the translation of texts. In light of this, a questionnaire and a test have been used for the students to answer. The aim of the students’ questionnaire is to gather information about the students’ knowledge and attitudes toward translation and kinship terminology. The aim of the students’ test is to know the students abilities in translating kinship terms whether from Arabic to English or from English to Arabic. The results of the analyses revealed that the majority of the students found it challenging to deal with kinship terminology. The participants find that kinship terms are tremendously problematic and difficult to translate from English to Arabic mainly because of lack of readiness and misuse of the right of equivalents. Therefore, the hypothesis is confirmed, emphasizing the fact that the students misuse kinship terms because of the reasons mentioned above.
