Résumé : |
The field of education has witnessed many changes especially in the last few years.
Accordingly, due to the covid-19 pandemic educators have been forced to shift to distance
education through e-learning systems to ensure the continuity of the educational year.
Therefore, the current study circles around the adoption of distance education in EFL
teaching/ learning process during the covid-19 pandemic. It aims at investigating EFL
teachers‟ and learners‟ different perceptions concerning the effect of distance education on
the EFL teaching and learning process. Moreover, the hypothesis adopted in this study sets
out that the adoption of distance education affects the EFL teaching/ learning process. To
carry out this work, a case study was conducted at Frères Mentouri University, specifically,
Department of Letters and the English language, where 3rd year 30 students of English and 10
EFL teachers were selected randomly as the sample. To test the validity of the hypothesis, a
descriptive method was adopted. Two questionnaires are addressed to teachers and students
regarding the adoption of this former as an alternative to face-to-face education during the
covid-19 pandemic. The findings of the study revealed that both EFL teachers and learners
believe in the negative effect of distance education on the EFL teaching and learning process.
Moreover, both of the participants assert that the adoption of distance education failed in our
country because it lacked many important factors among which; lack of preparation, students‟
access to technology, and low internet service in our country, which might have helped in its
success as an alternative to face to face education. Therefore, based on these results the
previously mentioned hypothesis is successfully confirmed because the adoption of distance
education has affected the EFL teaching/learning process |
