Résumé : |
The current work helps to show that listening can be the suitable strategy to improve the students’
vocabulary stock at the Department of English, University of Mentouri, Constantine 1. Listening is
considered as one of the most important skills the students must develop. Hence, students who
spend a great deal listening to English native speakers and English songs have the opportunity to
gain new vocabulary, and their vocabulary stock will be enriched. Besides, they may communicate
with others and their speech will be meaningful. However, we have noticed that some EFL learners
face some difficulties while expressing their thoughts and ideas because of the limited vocabulary
they have. We hypothesized that if students listen most of the time to English native speakers and
English songs, their vocabulary stock will be enhanced and improved. In order to confirm our
hypothesis, we have opted for the questionnaire as a tool of research. One questionnaire was
administered to the Third Year LMD students, while the second one was given to the teachers of
oral expression at the same department. The results reveal that both of them agreed that listening to
English native speakers and English songs can enhance and improve learners’ vocabulary bank. |
