Résumé : |
Motivation plays a fundamental role in the process of learning a foreign language. Without
sufficient amount of motivation learners will not be able to develop their language skills
including speaking. For this reason, teachers should endeavor to promote students’ motivation
with effective strategies. The objective of this research is to show the positive impact of
intrinsic motivation as an inner factor that helps students in improving the speaking skill as
well as to provide some activities and strategies through which teachers can promote it. In
addition, it aims at examining to what extent teachers are aware of the positive effects of
motivation can have in encouraging students to speak. This leads us to hypothesize that if
EFL learners are intrinsically motivated, their speaking skill will be developed and enhanced.
To check the validity of our hypothesis two questionnaires were designed to a sample of 30
third year students and 10 teachers of Oral Expression in the Department of Letters and the
English Language at University Frères Mentouri Constantine 1. The analysis of the obtained
results reveals that intrinsic motivation is as important factor in developing students’ speaking
skill. Besides, we cannot neglect the big role the teachers play in the oral sessions and its
impacts on students’ motivation to learn and speak the English Language. The results
obtained support our hypothesis and confirm it. |
