Résumé : |
Thomas Harris’s The Silence of the Lambs (1988) is a contemporary odyssey of the
perennial struggle between good and evil. This legendary psychological thriller is a true crime
classic that looks evil in the eye, and makes a vocation of comprehending where it stems
from. This research meta-analyses the serial killer as a modern-day phenomenon. In a parallel
manner, it also introduces the heroic individual. The maxim of virtue clashes with villainy as
the morality of the common individual is put to test. These unsettling times blur the line
between the ideals of good, and the clutches of moral decadence ; hence, the struggle between
asserting moral dominance or submitting to moral disengagement. This research approaches
the novel through the Jungian theories of the Archetypes and their parallel with characters in
the novel. In addition, the analysis relies on the studies of the Dark Triad by Delroy Paulhus
and Kevin Williams, and the Light Triad by Scott Barry Kaufman and his colleagues
investigate the drives behind good and evil. |
