Résumé : |
One of the most noticeable shortcomings in EFL learners writing production is their
misuse of tenses while expressing their thoughts, feelings, events and attitudes towards
persons and things to fulfil the aim of the descriptive essay, for instance. Unlike the other
grammar points involved in writing, tenses bring more than the physical shape to the piece
of writing since they give it another dimension which is timing. In this research work, we
aim to make learners aware of the use of the appropriate tense or combination of tenses
suitable to convey the logical meaning intended for each type of essays to improve their
writing production. It is by the means of two questionnaires given to both teachers and
students from the Department of languages at Mentouri University Constantine that we
investigated our hypothesis. The findings gathered in this study confirmed the set
hypothesis, in that more effectiveness can be achieved in EFL learners writing production
if they are made aware of tenses use and the fact that each essay type requires an
appropriate tense or combination of tenses. |
