Résumé : |
This dissertation aims at investigating T.S. Eliot‘s misogyny, his depiction and portrayal of women in his early poetry―along with the historical roles women played in the early 20th century―and the poet‘s personal experiences, within the context of a selected number of poems. By means of a close study of three of Eliot‘s most famous and interesting poems, ―The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock‖, ―Whispers of Immortality‖, and The Waste Land, this dissertation tries to show that he displays a strong sense of sexism in his works which he exclusively devoted to human causes. T.S. Eliot, the 20th century giant, develops portraits of women in almost all his poems. But, it is especially in his early poems that women are usually painted as shallow and evil echoing therefore Charles Baudelaire‘s The Flowers of Evil. |
