Résumé : |
Things Fall Apart is a post colonial novel published in 1958, is written by
the Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe. The novel was written in response to the
European novels about Africa, such as the novella of Heart of darkness written by the
British novelist Joseph Conard, which portrayed the Africans as savages, primitive
beings.
Things Fall Apart describes the conflict in Nigeria between the European
missionaries and the defenders of the traditional Nigeria. Achebe aims to present the
history of Ibo society vividly and honestly by describing both perfections and
imperfections of his society. Achebe noted that the Igbo society also collapsed
because of many irrational conceptions in their spirituality.
This project aims at analyzing the Nigerian Cultural Identity before and during
the European colonialism and at examining the effects of the colonialism on the
Nigerian society from an African point of view. |
