Résumé : |
Home Rule was the most important feature of Irish political life and a major influence in British politics. Thus, it united both Irish and British statesmen, its politics revealed much about the though and priorities of the British leader W.E Gladstone in the late nineteenth century, and the Irish leader J. Redmond in the beginning of the twentieth century. This dissertation describes the Irish problem and the attempt of British and Irish leaders to solve it. It first examines Gladstone’s obsession with the Irish affair and his aim to pacify Ireland. To achieve his aim Gladstone outlined a new program of Irish reforms, dealing with the religious problem, the land question and education. Hence, this research develops Gladstone’s diversion to Home Rule and examines his motives to adopt such policy, and to show his failure as a result of the defeat of his two Home Rule Bills. This dissertation shed light on the crisis of Home Rule between 1912 and 1914 and how the Bill passed to the Parliament. Therefore, it tackles with the effort and activities made by John Redmond to pass the Home Rule Bills to the Parliament |
