Résumé : |
The rise of the New Woman in fin de siècle gave birth to a plethora of gender reconsiderations. The traditional presumptions of the inviolability of the categories of man and woman were therefore called into question in the second half of the nineteenth century. What is a woman and what does a woman want, were all questions that fed the gender studies of the period. This work offers an understanding of the monstrous side of the woman of the 1890’sthrough drawing parallels between the two creatures. However, the main concern of this paper is to relate the representation of the female as monster to her reproductive body. Female characters in Stephen King’s Carrie and Bram Stoker’s Dracula are the leading examples of female monstrosity |
