Résumé : |
This dissertation is a contribution to the study of the behavior of soils
reinforced with geogrids. The work carried out presents a numerical
study on the bearing capacity of circular foundations supported by
sand reinforced with layers of geogrid. Calculations were carried out
by using the finite element code Plaxis. The objectives of this study
are to:
1) determine the influence of the reinforcement on the characteristics
rigidity EA,
2) suggest geometrical factors for the reinforcement installation. The
following factors have been considered in the numerical
simulation: location of the top layer of reinforcement measured
from the bottom of the foundation (u), the number of the
reinforcement layers (N), the vertical distance between two
consecutive reinforcement layers (h) and the width of each
reinforcement layer (b).
It is shown that the behavior load-settlement and the ultimate bearing
capacity can be improved considerably by inclusion of layers of
geogrid. The obtained results are also compared with laboratory
model test results obtained by other researchers. It appears that the
agreement between the observed and calculated results is relatively
good regarding the load-settlement behavior and the optimal
geometry of the geogrids position |
