Résumé : |
In 2003, the United States led a multinational coalition that invaded Iraq and overthrew Saddam Hussein‟s regime from power. This action was a high controversial, both internationally and within the United States. The Bush administration had provided several justifications for the war such as Iraq‟s possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), suspected Iraqi connection with Al-Qaida, being Saddam Hussein a human right abuser, who had using that (WMD) against his own people and neighbours and likely to use them again against the United States in the future. Hence, the Bush administration declared its goals in Iraq: Stop to develop weapons of mass destruction, promote democracy, and defeat terrorism. The present dissertation evaluates the extent to which the United States achieved its objectives through the invasion of Iraq in 2003. This thesis proposes that the United States failed completely to achieve its promised goals in Iraq, as it linked some of its justifications to uncertain evidence and also failed in many ways to bring democracy to Iraq. This research concludes that the United States foreign policy in Iraq was a complete failure as it failed to locate the weapons of mass destruction, could not prove any Saddam Hussein connection with al-Qaida, and failed also to bring the promised democracy in Iraq. By contrast, it left the Iraq and the Iraqi people living in insecurity and chaos and lacking the minimum conditions of life. |
