Résumé : |
The Suez Crisis of 1956 was one of the most serious events that changed the politics of the Middle East. The Crisis sparked the events that led to the downfall of the British Empire after the emergence of the United States and the Soviet Union as the leading powers. This dissertation looks into the several elements of the British foreign policy concern the Suez Canal and the causes that led to the Crisis in 1956. Throughout my work process I am trying to present the change in the British political system from occupying Egypt up to the Crisis and war of 1956, focusing on how this Crisis affected the British relationship with the Middle East countries as well with the United States and the Soviet Union. This research project investigates the struggle between Britain and Gamal Abdel Nasser who challenged the British presence in the area and was able to topple the British system in Egypt and in the Middle East as a whole. The study explores the reasons behind the war on Egypt and the reaction of the entire world to the aggression. |
