Résumé : |
Education has the power to transform children’s future, by making difference in the development of the society and in the behavior of the child. Education develops personalities and individual abilities, but when it comes to Kenyan children it becomes an escape from poverty and a hope for a better life.
Many Kenyan parents are willing to go into debt or sell their goods in order to allow their children to go to school. For this Kenyan parents give great responsibility from an early age to their children to learn in order to fight the white man and retrieve their land from the enemy.
Knowledge for Kenyan people is freedom, the more educated their children become, the more they feel secure in a world were education was just a dream for the poor families and a hope for a better life.
This dissertation speaks about education in Africa and more specifically in Kenya. Throughout the novel Weep Not Child shows the importance of the theme of education that has been dealt in some different African novels by different African writers presenting it from different perspectives, and how parents give responsibilities to their children and hope in their capacities.
The purpose of this study is to show how the theme of education and responsibility was presented in Ngugi Wa Thiong’o’s novel Weep Not Child. The author shows how each character sees education as a springboard that drives people to freedom, and how Kenyan parents give great responsibilities to young children |
