Résumé : |
Academic writing is one of the most challenging and complex tasks the student may encounter when learning a foreign language . It is difficult because it requires a considerable effort and practice on the learners’ part to achieve the level of writing that is accepted academically . Due to the complexity of this skill , every aspect of academic should be taken into consideration when teaching or learning how to write in an EFL class . One of the most important aspects of academic writing that need to be developed is academic vocabulary . In this research , we aim to investigate the effect of a vocabulary instruction method on the students academic writing . Students should acquire the vocabulary that is necessary to be used in an academic writing before attempting to write . The method we used in this research focuses on making the students not only acquire academic vocabulary but also help them in theme knowledge . Being aware of the steps that need to be followed when writing academically will be effective once the students are equipped with the terminology that they need in similar tasks . It is by the means of a lecture that was followed by a writing assignement and a questionnaire given to a group of third year students from the department of English at Mentouri university that we investigated our hypothesis . The findings gathered in this research confirmed the set hypothesis in that students should not be made aware of the academic writing steps only but should also learn the necessary vocabulary that can be used in an academic composition . |
