Résumé : |
This paper deals with the problem of racial prejudice and its impact on the life of African
American individuals in the twentieth century. It investigates the blacks’ identity crisis and their
American experience through the analysis of Richard Wright’s Native Son, This study aims at
showing the racial injustice and violence practiced on blacks, and how this has affected their
behavior, feelings and thoughts as they struggled to maintain their freedom and even searched for a
new identity. This dissertation will attempt a psychoanalytical study of Bigger’s personality; Bigger
is physically free but he is imprisoned by fear and hatred of whites which lead him to hate himself,
reject his family and his community. Finally he finds himself in a complete alienation in a vast
world. |
