The idea that reward can be used to increase the academic performance has a wide spread in
second language learning contexts; research on reward has proved its positive effect on
students’ intrinsic motivation. Therefore, Reward serves as an extrinsic motivator that
supports the students’ lack of intrinsic motivation. The present research aims at showing that
reward is an effective strategy that is to be used by teachers to motivate students to participate
in the oral activities in one hand, and to develop their speaking skill on the other hand.
Therefore, our main hypothesis is that, if teachers of oral expression use reward in their
classrooms; students' speaking skill will be enhanced. To check the hypothesis two main
questionnaires were administered one for teachers and the other for students. Teachers’
questionnaire is designed for oral expression teachers and students’ questionnaire is designed
for second year LMD students of English, at University of Constantine1.The results obtained
in our study show that reward has a positive effect on students’ intrinsic motivation. On the
light of these results, we have confirmed the hypothesis that, reward is an effective strategy to
develop students’ speaking skill. |
