Résumé : |
To learn a language is to speak that language, it seems as a matter of practice, but
students find it difficult to speak because of some problems that prevent them from improving
their oral production of English. The present study aims to investigate the impact of group
work on students’ motivation to learn the speaking skill. It also aims at identifying whether
students prefer having group works or following a teacher-centered approach in learning to
speak.
In order to carry out our study, we hypothesize that « if students are trained to practice
group work in the classroom, they will be better motivated to acquire the oral skill ».To verify
our hypothesis, two questionnaires have been administered to third-year students and to
teachers of oral expression at the Department of English, University, Constantine1. The
results obtained showed that group work is the best technique to acquire the English speaking
skill in a motivating situation, where the learners use the target language to participate and
interact with one another in the classroom, thus our hypothesis has been confirmed. |
