This Master dissertation aims to investigate women's position in the English society
during the Victorian era, to reveal their suffering and oppression in that era. It
specifically focus on Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre as a famous work which depicts
Jane's struggle and harsh journey as an example and model of Victorian lady.
Through the character of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte symbolizes her refusal and
dissatisfaction with the different oppression imposed by the society on women. In
fact, Charlotte Bronte presented her view on women status and how women should
react to these barriers. For Charlotte women should go beyond these obstacles to set
themselves free, just like Jane does .In short, JaneEyre is a story of a woman in search
of independence and freedom. |
