Résumé :	By using a methodical examination of Alice Walker’s womanist ideology in The Color Purple, this study aims to evaluate the ensuing utopian society at the end of the novel with which she intends to create the perfect alternative society wherein the African American woman is completely liberated from all forms of degradation. The development process of this evaluation is realized in three fundamental phases: 1) defining the oppressor of the black female; 2) identifying the black woman’s stereotypical roles her oppressor expects her to submissively perform; 3) analyzing the reversals Walker performs to liberate the black woman from those conventional stereotypes.
