Résumé : |
This dissertation, a total of three chapters, is intended to investigate self-esteem as an
affective factor that can influence students to perform better orally. This study aims at
exploring the relationship between self-esteem and oral performance.
The hypothesis of this dissertation is that the more students trust and believe in their
abilities, and the more high self-esteem they have, the more likely they are to enhance their
oral performance in speaking English as a foreign language.
In this research, we are interested in the fact that feeling capable to achieve learning goals
has anything to do with student’s ability to speak fluently and accurately. In other words,
one is willing to know whether or not learner’s positive evaluation of himself and his
feeling of “I can do it” and “I am competent”, could influence his oral skill to entirely be
moved forward.
The research methodology used in this study is a descriptive one. It describes two
variables: self-esteem as the independent variable and speaking skill as the dependent
variable, and identify the relationship between them.
It is by the mean of a test delivered to 20 students of third year; and by the means of two
questionnaires delivered to 13 teachers and administered to 30 students of third year
L.M.D, at the Department of Letters and English Language, Constantine university 1, in
which one intends to investigate our hypothesis that look into students’ self-esteem and
their oral performance in the process of learning English as a foreign language |
