Résumé : |
This study deals with the social integration of Pakistani Muslims in England from the
1960's to the present days.
British Muslims came from a wide diversity of ethnic backgrounds.Over 40 % of them
are of Pakistani origin, which made it the largest group.
Pakistani Muslims, therefore, have a different cultural backgroud from that of the
English people. Thus,it is difficult for Pakistanis to establish real social relations with the local
people who seem reluctant to accept this minority group in their society. And this makes
integration to be a very difficult process.
This study deals with the Pakistani Muslims in employment which plays an important
role in their integration into the English society.First,it begins with the history of Pakistani
immigration to Britain,ie,the main reasons of their coming to Britain, their geographical
distribution in Britain and their patterns of immigration. Also,it deals with the different British
immigration laws.It also examines the influence of such laws on the Pakistani immigration.
Second ,it deals with the social integration of pakistanis at work. Thus,it examines the
characteristics of the pakistani worker,ie,his occupations,work status,earnings,and skills.It
also deals with the unemployment problem of this immigrant. And finally, it discusses the
racial discrimination of Pakistanis in employment, and their day-to-day interaction with the
English employers and workers, and with other ethnic groups. |
