The present research is intended to examine the economic policies of the British second Labour Government (1929-31)—under the leadership of Ramsay MacDonald— to tackle the problem of unemployment, focusing on the doubtful reasons for the failure of the second Labour government to cut the problem of unemployment. This dissertation is divided into three chapters. The first chapter devoted to the economic circumstances prevailing in Britain in the interwar years by focusing on the aspects of the declining role of Britain in the international trade and business, then comes the crisis of unemployment. This chapter concludes with the international economic crisis that hit the US stock market in 1929, and which had a severe impact on the British economy. Chapter two comes to deepen the research on the economic policies of the British second Labour government to ease the burden of unemployment, and which later on proved to be a failure. Then comes the final chapter to put off the veil on the different reasons that led the Labour government to resign |
