Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies Entailment system, marriage, Female gender, rebellion, men‘s oppression. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Abstract The end of the eighteenth and the first half of the nineteenth century saw the rise of many prominent female writers who defended women‘s issues, like Jane Austen, the famous British novelist. This notable writer dealt with many of women‘s problems of her time in her novels Pride and Prejudice and Emma strongly and boldly, relying on her unique style and on both heroines Elizabeth Bennet and Emma Woodhouse. Jane Austen‘s portrayal of these heroines reflects her personal perspective and views about women‘s position at that time. Jane Austen never went against the idea of giving women their legal rights; thus, she encouraged female gender to look for their own identity and to rebel against society‘s traditions which restricted their freedom. Jane Austen used the theme of marriage in order to show the dark side of her society, also, to tackle other issues like Entailment system. Additionally, male and female characters are introduced in her two novels differently, in order to depict the image of the oppressormenand the weak women. Jane Austen shows in these two novels that Elizabeth and Emma, being confident and rebellious characters, are symbols of hope for the renewal of their society‘s treatment of women. The question that one may ask then is: how did Jane Austen deal with all these points in Pride and Prejudice and Emma? That is the elementary question that the present research attempts to answer. Therefore, the principal goal of this Dissertation is to point out Jane Austen‘s point of view as a feminist writer toward women‘s position in her epoch. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies African Americans Harlem Renaissance New Negro movement segregation marginalization migration common awareness Arts social change. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the renaissance movement of 1917 to 1930, the impact of great migration of Blacks from South to the North, escaping hard conditions of Jim Crow laws, this on one hand, and on the other the black gatherings particularly in Harlem, New York constituting a community with its peculiarities, thanks to the effective contributions of intellectuals and artists through a new movement called the New Negro or Harlem Renaissance urging the Blacks to struggle peacefully to gain more rights. Despite some skeptic opinions, a truth has to be elucidated according to references I have based my work on: the black individual has become more confident in himself. The black community is a reality within the U.S.A, no one can deny its rights and this thanks to the struggles it has led, and to artistic contribution which has made of the USA a nation with specificities, different from white man‘s country of origin. Titre : The nineteenth century women and their representation in george eliot’s middlemarch Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Lilia Larguat, Auteur ; Nadia Rahmoune, Directeur de thèse Editeur : CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine Année de publication : 2013 Importance : 58 f. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Une copie électronique PDF disponible en BUC. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies Victorian period Women changes society and marriage Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : In the Nineteenth century during the reign of Queen Victoria, the English society experienced
massive changes and saw many events and evolutions. Women as a substantial part of this
society, enjoyed few of the legal, social and political rights that are now taken for granted in
Western countries. Their vocational opportunities were extremly limited and their lives were
devoted to the domestic sphere.
The present dissertation aims at exposing the different representations, status and roles of
women in the Nineteenth century in Britain. In order to display the restrictions that women
increasingly resisted and adopted throughout the century. The paper will specifically focus on
George Eliot’ Middlemarch entitled A Study of Provincial Life, which explores carefully
women’s place in a male-dominated world.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5726 The nineteenth century women and their representation in george eliot’s middlemarch [texte imprimé] / Lilia Larguat, Auteur ; Nadia Rahmoune, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2013 . - 58 f. ; 30 cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : British and American Studies Jane Austen Irony Social Class Class consciousnessRegency society. Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This dissertation deals with the use of irony in Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice which
aims to criticize the social class system of Regency England. Jane Austen – through the
characters, settings and discourses of this novel – inclines to reflect the social prejudices and
class-consciousness that were deeply rooted in the mode life of Regency society. Initially, this
paper presents a brief historical overview on Jane Austen’s society - mainly her biography, a
concise general idea about the Regency social class system and Jane Austen’s writing style.
The second focus of this study is made on the use of Irony and its different types in Pride and
Prejudice in embodying Jane Austen’s attitudes, thoughts, and views about social class
differences. The purpose of my study is to show the significance of irony used in Pride and
Prejudice reflecting Jane Austen’s viewpoints on social status of her society. Therefore, the
present study aims to help the reader acquire a full understanding of Austen’s attitudes on the
principles and social biases of the society to which she belongedDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4243 The use of irony in jane austen’s novel pride and prejudice in reflecting social class consciousness [texte imprimé] / Zineb Larous, Auteur ; Nadia Rahmoune, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2017 . - 41 f. ; 30 cm.
