Résumé : |
Opposition to the Electoral College existed even before the Framers made the decision on how the president of the United States would be chosen; however, the Founders at that time believed the Electoral College was the best method for choosing the president in the best interests of the individuals, states, and country as a whole, the nature of the system made it very controversial when it comes to honoring the democratic principles of the American people. The goal of this research was to evaluate the necessity of the Electoral College in the 21st century by examining both the oppositions’ and proponents’ arguments to the validity of Electoral College in modern times. The research found weaknesses in the oppositions’ claims that the Electoral College fails to fully represent the will of all the people in a democratic United States. This research recommends further debates to reconcile between the opponents and the proponents. |
