Résumé : |
Writing in a foreign language is one of the most challenging tasks Because of the complexity of the writing skill, many students find it very difficult to produce an adequate piece of writing. The present study aims at investigating the effectiveness of the Self-Regulated Strategy Development model to teach writing. Students should be made aware of the importance of self-regulated learning in order to improve their writing quality. Explicit strategy-based instruction is one of the main characteristics of Self-Regulated Strategy Development which is proved to be efficient to help students scaffold their writing through following a set of strategies mainly presented in a form of mnemonics. These strategies allow students to decide about what to write, how to write, and how to evaluate what they write. Thus, teaching students direct strategies is a crucial step towards achieving well-written texts. It is by means of two research instruments that we investigate our hypothesis: teachers‟ questionnaire and an experimental design; both of them took place in the Department of Languages at Mentouri Brothers‟ University- Constantine. The findings gathered in this study confirmed the set hypothesis in that students can improve their writing quality if they are taught how to be self-regulated and how to use efficient writing strategies that are explicitly presented by the teacher. |
