Résumé : |
The present study attempts to investigate the importance of some connected speech aspects and
their profound impact on English third year L M D students’ listening comprehension
performance. It aims at analyzing what the listening skill should pedagogically involve while
taking into account the fact that within a classroom situation, listening has been always the
“forgotten skill”. Consequently, this has always caused students difficulty understanding natives’
spoken utterances. Furthermore, students’ lack of awareness and training in this area of language is
the rotten fruit of the neglected value of usingconnected speech in the classroom setting as a
feature of their pronunciation as well as exposing students’ ears to authentic language materials
such as films; songs and/or conversations, as a part of a listening lecture. To further clarify the
matter, a test is conducted, in which a listening task, as well as a questionnaire, are assigned to the
students for the main purpose of detecting the different perception difficulties that students face
when they are exposed to listening to naturally spoken utterances. As a conclusion, the results
obtained show that students have vague and broad ideas about this notion of connected speech and
obviously many of them are neither able to define this concept nor have a clue about the
paramount importance of its aspects in making speech flow smoothly. Finally, a set of
recommendations has been proposed for teaching connected speech in a healthier classroom
atmosphere, using the methods proposed right herein. Ultimately, the research results confirm the
validity of the established hypothesis |
