Résumé : |
The current study investigates the correlation between the content of the module of Research Methodology and the students' theoretical knowledge in writing their Master dissertations. It aims to reveal the role of this module in preparing the students to write a dissertation in the Department of letters and English Language at Constantine University 1. This research work depends on the hypothesis that if the Research Methodology provides the students with the necessary knowledge about how to write a dissertation, they would produce better ones. Thus, this study is an attempt to show that the teaching of Research Methodology in the Department of English does not do its role in preparing Master two students perfectly to write a Master dissertation. Therefore, the choice of the topic is motivated by the difficulties which Master two students face when working on their graduation project. In order to investigate the aforementioned hypothesis, a test was administered to 50 Master two students of Applied Language studies; in addition to that, 34 previous Master dissertations (2010) were analyzed according to dissertation‟s requirements. The obtained results present a strong proof that Master two students in the Department of letters and English Language at Constantine University 1, have a poor knowledge about even the simplest elements that compose a dissertation. This in turn demonstrates the failure of the Research Methodology module in preparing Master two students to fulfill the challenge of writing good dissertations. |
