Résumé : |
The present dissertation attempts to investigate the impact of using role play in
enhancing learners’ pragmatic competence. The main problem underlying this endeavour
resides in Master one LMD student’s inability to carry on a spontaneous communication
either in the classroom or in any natural setting. This is puzzling issues that may moans
and groans on the part of teachers, researchers and pedagogues have been highly heard. It
is hypothesized in this research work that through using role play, learners could boost up
their pragmatic competence and be able to carry on successful communication. The main
objective of this work then is to enable learners to use meaningful and purposeful
utterances through communication in the classroom and outside it where language needs
authenticity and selection. Through the questionnaire administrated to teachers at the
department of English, University of Constantine, we intended to explore teachers’
opinions about the nature of language learning and the mechanisms of developing
pragmatic competence through role play. The test is directed to Master One LMD students
at the department of English, University of Constantine in order to see whether role play
activity has an impact on developing their pragmatic competence. The results of the study
show that, most of teachers strongly believe that through using role play in their courses,
students could build up their pragmatic competence. In addition, the results of the test
demonstrate that learners need intensive practice of advanced types of role play that take
various forms (discussion, argumentation, etc) for promoting their pragmatic competence |
