Résumé :	The work discusses the conflict in Northern Ireland. It is an attempt to shed light on religion as one main factor in creating the conflict and maintaining it. The first chapter is a historical background about Ireland; it investigates the most important historical events that happened since the union between Britain and Ireland. The chapter aims at understanding the origins of the conflict through the study of the important events that led to the shift of power from Catholics to Protestants so that it led to the creating of the problem. These events helped to define a relationship between the two sects for several centuries. The second chapter investigates the partition of the Irish island to north and south because of the religious conflict that was developed to antagonism and war. The third chapter focuses on Northern Ireland, on a relationship between Catholics and Protestants especially during the 60's and the 70's of the twenty-century period, as it was the peak of the conflict because of the huge number of casualties. Moreover, the research investigates the major attempts of reconciliation to put an end to the long running conflict in Europe. Finally, the research tries to show to what extent religious differences can create conflicts. These conflicts destroy the countries because of the absence of some simple values such as religious tolerance and co-existence.
