English prepositions are important part of speech which causes problems for english
learners. The way these grammatical items are taught has impact on how students
appropriately acquire and use them.
This research work aims at finding out whether introducing prepositions through the use
of grammar games helps in making First Year University students aware of the different
meanings of prepositions as well as their appropriate use in written production. For the sake
of examining the hypothesized possibility that the use of garammar games in teaching
prepositions may improve First Year University students’ rate of prepositional accuracy in
writing, we gathered data relying on two questionnaires as means of research one handed to
grammar teachers and one First Year LMD students Studying English as foreign language.
The Teachers’ Questionnaire investigates the teachers’ opinions about using games as a
strategy of teaching prepositions. The Students’ Questionnaire gathers data about students’
attitudes towards the difficulty of prepositions and the benefits of grammar games.
The results revealed that the teachers of grammar and the students who participated in
the study agree that grammar games can be a suitable teaching strategy that will help learners
overcome the difficulties they have with this part of speech in writing. These positive results
offer a proposal for teachers of First Year grammar to include games in their teaching of
prepositions. |
