Résumé : |
The present study aims at investigating and analyzing second year students’
problems in mastering the first principle of writing; namely: clarity and directness. The
main aim is to highlight the forms which embody the students’ writing problems in
controlling this principle. To gather data for the present research, a written test in a form of
homework is used. The analysis of this test has shown that the majority of the participants
in this study tend to use the forms that are under investigation (i.e.) wordiness, repetition,
ambiguous ideas, and additional ideas which are some kinds of indirectness and ambiguity.
The findings have revealed, to a great extent, what was hypothesized that if second year
students of English write in an unclear and indirect way, this will undoubtely confuse the
reader, and most often affect text interpretation and comprehension. Based on these results,
some pedagogical implications are suggested to help second year students become better
equipped with strategies used to achieve academic writing. |
