Résumé :	This dissertation aims at showing the relationship between ellipsis and translation and the influence of understanding ellipsis on producing a good translation . More specifically, it stresses the learners’ ability in translating ellipsis and the problems faced by them. The emphasis of this research is on the performance of third year undergraduate students of applied linguistics at University Constantine 1. In order to collect data and verify the hypothesis, a test is given to assess their abilities to translate different types of ellipsis in both English and Arabic
