The purpose of this research is to shed some light on the influence of French lexicon in the
written production of Algerian English learners. The hypothesis of this dissertation is that
third year secondary school pupils transfer from French lexicon in their written production
if they have not enough English vocabulary. This research is mainly concerned with
language transfer and lexical transfer in particular and the different aspects concerning this
issue. In order to test our hypothesis, a test and a questionnaire are given. The
questionnaire is administered to a sample of Secondary School teachers from four
Secondary Schools. The test is a spontaneous written paragraph which is directly taken
from learners’ exam papers. The results of the present research showed that third year
secondary school learners transfer from French lexicon in their written production. This
means that the hypothesis of this research is confirmed. |
