The case of the Algerian learners of English, first year master, at the department of English .in University Constantine 1.The importance of cultural awareness, or the integration of culture in foreign language teaching would help learners to learn that language due to the close relationship between language and culture. We aim at demonstrating that lack of cultural knowledge would hamper the learning of English as a foreign language. Cultural awareness would create a successful communication, through acquiring communicative competence and especially intercultural communicative competence. Hence, achieving language proficiency. from another angle the practical part of this research ,which is based on tests that seek to evaluate the learner’s cultural awareness ,about the attitudes and behaviors of the target language people, by realizing cross-cultural differences. The questionnaire in turn will help us to give some suggestions about learning a foreign language and communicating effectively.
