Résumé : |
The current study aims at investigating the importance and the positive effects of proofreading in minimizing mistakes in the students‟ writings. The central objective of this research is to make students more conscious about the effectiveness of proofreading; meanwhile, we want to verify whether students proofread their writings. Hence, I hypothesized that if 3rd year students of the University of Constantine proofread their writings, they will reduce the number of mistakes they make in their writings; therefore, they would doubtless produce good compositions. In order to check the validity of this research hypothesis, two research tools were implemented: a students‟ questionnaire and an in- class writing test. Both the questionnaire and the test were administered to the 3rd year students at the University of Constantine. The analysis and the discussion of the data obtained from the questionnaire and the in-class writing test have displayed that the majority of students made a considerable number of mistakes at the different levels: grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization. To put it differently, the majority of the students showed a total neglect of the proofreading strategy and this would usually lead to produce poor pieces of writing. However, after raising students‟ awareness about proofreading, its different strategies and its importance, they could really reduce a significant number of mistakes already marked in their writings. Therefore, my research hypothesis has fortunately been confirmed. |
