It attempts to examine to what extent reading can help students to understand and acquire new vocabulary they encounter during the process of reading, then using them in their speaking. The reason behind choosing such subject is because most students face difficulties when they are come to express their ideas in speaking that are due to lack of vocabulary and the lack of effective reading outside and inside the classroom. This research work hypothesis that if third-year English students at the university if Constantine one apply reading as a means of knowledge using effective strategies, they would be able to improve their speaking skill. The research methodology which has been followed through this work is a descriptive one in which we have described the two variables: reading as the independent variable that affect speaking skill as the dependent variable which may be enhanced either positively or negatively reading. To reach the aim of this study, some data are collected by means of two questionnaires. The first was administrated to (35) thirdyear English students and the teacher questionnaire that was submitted to (10) teachers at the department of English, university of Constantine (1).
