Résumé : |
This dissertation concerns itself with one particular critique of the archetypal criticism of literature which subjects this approach to indifference in the late twentieth century and thereafter. The critique in question suggests that this approach is rather formalistic and tends to give little attribution (credit) to the diversity introduced by the creative skills of individuals. Thus, this dissertation examines two very different antagonists from two distinguished works. The purpose is to explore the construction of a villain by writers of dissimilar genre and style and therefore give the image of villainy unique dimensions in each setting: Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller’s tragedy, The Crucible, and Mr. Hyde in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde |
