Résumé : |
The present research aims at exploring the effects of motivation on improving learners’
writing performances in second language learning. Hence, researchers have indicated the
importance of the four language skills as the whole process: speaking, reading, listening and
writing. The later is one important skill in that process which is characterized as a complex
task that requires concentration, practice and considerable effort from the learners’ part. The
purpose of the present work is to shed some light on the importance of extrinsic and intrinsic
motivation and the use of cooperative learning and rewards as an attempt to get learners to
write the language effectively. Nevertheless, enhancing learners’ motivation to write requires
dealing with it creatively, with respect to the grammar rules and the use of accurate
vocabulary as well as following the writing process stages, such as “prewriting, drafting,
revising and editing”. However, the majority of Second Year English Students find it difficult
to produce a successful piece of writing due to their lack of motivation which impedes them
to be competent writers. Hence, this dissertation aims at knowing to what extent motivation
can help Second Year English Students in their learning process and how to develop their
writing skill. The data is gathered by means of two questionnaires, one for teachers and one
for students that have been carried out to confirm the our hypothesis. The findings gathered in
this research supported the set hypothesis, because the majority of students are not motivated
while writing in English. This reveals that they need their teachers’ instructions and some
external factors to help them achieving their learning objectives. Finally, the results obtained
in this study stress the fact that motivation has a crucial role in the writing process, because
almost all the students confirm that if they are motivated they will effectively develop their
writing skill. |
