Résumé : |
Writing is among the most complex and challenging skills that language learners are expected
to master; it is not only an important means for imparting thoughts and messages but it is the
skill mostly used to examine learners’ achievement. Having a good command of writing,
though, is not something to be reached easily, especially in a foreign language; it requires
much efforts and practice from both teachers and learners. As writing is a process made up of
various steps, this dissertation attempts to recognize teachers’ and students’ perceptions of the
writing process. It seeks to determine the extent to which students and teachers emphasize this
process while performing writing and during the writing instruction, and the relationship
between students’ writing scores and their use of the writing process. We hypothesize that the
more the student gives importance to the writing process stages, the higher marks s/he gets in
the writing exams. To check the validity of this hypothesis, we conducted two questionnaires;
one to fifty four second-year students of English at the Department of English Arts and
Languages at the University of "Frères Mentouri"Constantine 1, and the other to ten secondyear
teachers in the same department. As a second step, the students` Written Expression
exam scores and those of the writing process used were correlated. The results show no
correlation between the two variables |
