Following a socio-historical approach, it tends to stress that the role of oral tradition is not only for the celebration of African identity but, it serves the thematic concerns of the writer too (change, alienation, dispossession, and identity). Ngugi’s use of oral tradition covers different forms such as myths and legends, songs and proverbs and so on and so forth. Ngugi is among many African writers who aim at the rehabilitation of African culture and identity through celebrating African wisdom which is a resident of the African past. Oral tradition represents the glorious past, and the progressive present for a prosperous future.
