The retreat of the British liberal party between (1906-1924) happened over a short period of time
and in a sudden way especially after the two landslide victories for the party in the general elections of
1906 and 1910. This research looks into the causes of this demise, singling out the First World War
was the main reason behind the collapse of the liberal party without neglecting the other important
reasons that led to its downfall. This research consists of two chapters, The First chapter deals with the
Liberal party before the First World War and the factors that contributed to its demise, It is worth
mentioning the period of unrest 1903/1914 and the Irish case, adding to that the rise of the labour party
Whereas the second chapter evolves around the Liberal party during the First World War and the
impact of the war on liberal principles |
