The present research seeks to investigate the use of social media as learning tools, it also
examines the opinions of first year students of English at Université des Frères Mentouri
about the effect of Facebook on their English language skill improvement in term of reading
and writing. To achieve these aims, we hypothesize that using Facebook helps students
improve their English reading and writing skills, and motivates them to learn better. To check
the validity of this hypothesis, a survey method with the distribution of a questionnaire was
employed to collect data, administered to a random sample of first-year students of English at
Université des Frères Mentouri, Constantine. The obtained results have revealed that
increased exposure to English has been recognized the most, resulting in reading and writing
skill improvement. Nevertheless, the advantages of Facebook in English language learning
motivation as well as the benefits in English writing skill improvement were not well
recognized. |
