Résumé : |
The present study attempts to investigate the effect of using instructions on students’
production of verbal collocations, at the Department of Letters and English language at Frère
Mentouri University of Constantine . Moreover, it tends to collect data about students writing
and knowledge of collocations. The hypothesis stresses that the use of instructions in class
would help students improve their production of verbal collocations. To reach the study’s
aims and test the reseach hypothesis, a pre-post quasi-experimntal design and a questionnaire
were used for the data collection. The findings revealed that students’ production of verbal
collocations improved as we exposed them to instructions . Therefore, the research hypothesis
was confirmed. In addition to that the lack of needed vocabulary and collocational knowledge
are the most common causes of students’ inability to express what they want. Moreover, they
do not know how to combine words together because they are influenced by the Arabic
language. In the light of these findings it is essential to strength the collocational knowledge
of the students by providing diverse collocation awaerness-raising and adopting new
strategies to improve students’ writing. |
