There is a perpetual stigma around women in comedy; the outdated stereotype that women are
not as funny as men. This perception has been around for centuries, and there is no indication of
it fading away soon. The aim of this research is to investigate - with the help of the theoretical
approaches- the gender disparity, in the specific case of the stand-up comedy genre, in addition
to exploring the basic differences in the humour of both genders. In order to achieve the latter, an
examination of the data is carried out. It was extracted from the randomly two selected stand-up
shows; one that belongs to a female, and the other to a male comedian. At last, the analysed data
indicated that the participants' views of both genders' humour is a thoroughly match to the
previous assumption of men comedians being funnier than their women counterparts are |
