Résumé : |
The present dissertation investigates the impact of the chatting style on the students' academic
writing. The main purpose is pointing up the differences between both styles. It tackles the
academic writing process, its features, the computer mediated communication, its different
types and the different features of chat. It also aims at urging English students to write
according the writing process, respecting the writing features so that they obtain an accurate
well-formed piece of writing. Equivalently essential, this present research seeks to raise the
students’ awareness of the effects of the chatting style on their academic writing. The data
were gathered by means of a questionnaire that consists of eleven questions and a test which
has been administrated to thirty third year students selected randomly from English classes at
the department of English at University of Frères Mentouri. The results accessed approve the
stated hypothesis, which predicts that the overuse of chat affects the students’ written
performance, and affirm that chatting style has a negative impact on the students' academic
writing since the chatting features were adopted in their academic writings. Accordingly, the
students' formal writing is generally inaccurate. They should be conscious of the negative
impact of the chatting style to avoid such mistakes. |
