Its impact on the economy and especially on the labour market makes the debate more heated and continuous. The present dissertation aims at analyzing the impact of immigration on the British labour market in the period 1997-2007. The main concern of this study is to determine whether, immigration has a positive or a negative impact on the British labour market. This dissertation examines the anti-immigration arguments and refutes them by exposing the pro-immigration arguments and analysing the available data. The main findings support the thesis that, immigrants do not harm the British labour market at the aggregate level. The main finding can be summarized that, immigration has a thin negative impact and statistically insignificant on the low-skilled labourers but, a positive impact on the semi-skilled and high-skilled labourers for the level of wages. In addition, immigration has a positive impact on the employment level for the three types of skilled labourers.
