Résumé : |
The present thesis is a comparative study of two “Angry Young Men”‟s works:
Kingsley Amis‟ novel Lucky Jim (1954) and John Osborne‟s play Look Back in Anger (1956).
It mainly analyses the common theme of „anger‟, its causes, forms and results, found in both
works. In the light of Psychoanalytic and Historical theories, this comparison aims at
demonstrating how the protagonists‟ „anger‟ is mainly caused by frustration, which arises
from unfulfilled expectations in a hopeless society. It also investigates the different forms in
which the protagonists express their anger. Interestingly, however, the anger induced by
frustration is a dual force that can either be sterile, leading to the individual‟s self-destruction,
or fertile, if turned into constructive action |
