Résumé : |
Since, many cultures and nations gather when doing business, translation is required for its
vital role in converting massages and languages across the world. The present case study aims
at investigating the difficulties and problems that first year Master students of English face
while translating business terms. It also seeks to test if they tend to translate those terms
literally and to what extent they are aware of using the different methods and strategies of
translation in order to get an accurate translation from the source text, in this context, it is
hypothesized that: if students depend on literal translation in translating business terms, the
meaning will change and will not be equivalent to the original one. The data were gathered by
means of a questionnaire that covers a wide range of questions about translation and business
in addition to a written test with different technical terms given to 24 students from the whole
population of first year Master students of English. The discussion and analysis of the
findings affirms that the students are influenced by their mother tongue “Arabic” which led
them to translate literally where the meaning is lost in many cases |
